# Be comfortable with abandoning books Created On: 01-08-2023 01:34 pm Up:: [[Reading (MOC)]] Type:: #note/evergreen🌲 Tags:: [[Productivity MOC]] Related:: [[Asking a book to serve you]] --- Be comfortable with and encouraged to abandon books that you're reading that are not capturing your interest or challenging you in a meaningful way, even if they’re “good books”, especially critically. Speaking of non-fiction books especially, ==they're intended to challenge us and motivate us to make positive change in our lives. **If this isn't happening or your cup isn't getting filled: move on! You have more than permission; you're obligated to do so!**== Disregard your "reading goal", "your commitment to completion" and any other self-justification that is poisoning your mind - ==**if you're not deriving value, then who are you doing it for? Do it for you!**== You're going to burn yourself out, you know? What do we do when we're uninspired by something? We walk away from it; avoid it. ==Your blind commitment to a poor book is worth throwing away reading in general, this passion? **Abandon the book, not your collective passion!**== [[Know no]] - know when it is for your betterment to say no. In this case, ==continuing to say "yes" to an uninspiring book is saying "no" to all of the other better ones you could be reading in this moment - the ones that'll be more impactful and valuable to you, your growth, your life.== --- *Context*: this came up after I started and abandoned [[The Roman Empire (Book)]] after reading about 30% of it in a morning.
