# Converting Kindle books to Kobo Created On: 10-06-2024 09:37 am Up:: [[Personal Media (MOC)]] Tags:: #note/evergreen🌲 Topics:: Related:: --- This note captures instruction of moving Kindle books, purchased from Amazon.com, to Kobo compatibility, Kepub (Kobo epub) through Calibre & Calibre Web. 1. Download the book from Amazon Library [here](https://www.amazon.com/hz/mycd/digital-console/contentlist/booksAll/dateDsc/) using the ā€œDownload and Transfer to USBā€ option. 1. This produces a a `.azw3` file, which is a proprietary Amazon format. We’ll convert this down the line. 2. Open Calibre Desktop on your PC, add the book to your library, and then convert it to an epub. 1. If you have your settings and plugins right, this will DeDRM (using that Calibre plugin) and convert to `.epub` simultaneously. 3. Drag and drop the book folders (`O` shortcut on each book item in Calibre) onto the Synology file system (using [web UI](http://foxnas-v2.local:5000/)), preferably in the `Calibre Library` mount 1. Moving the entire folder, as opposed to just the epub, preserves the cover, epub file, and the base metadata file via the original conversion. 4. Import the book folders into the [server version of Calibre](http://foxnas-v2.local:7080/) 1. Garbage cleanup: remove the *now* redundant `Calibre Library` files post the import 5. If you want a different cover, download from online, store it in `NAS Shared/Plex/ebooks/_Book Covers` and import it through there. These persist (and are backed up with the library itself) 6. Normalize and cleanup the meta data and choose an appropriate cover, especially ensuring author information and series are consistent. 7. Import to Kobo using the Calibre-Web integration, automatically converting it to a `.kepub` on transfer. 8. Done! šŸŽ‰
