# Disappointment thrives between your expectations and reality Created On: 06-15-2023 08:12 am Up:: [[Happiness (MOC)]] Tags:: #note/evergreen🌲 #on/stoicism/applied Topics:: [[Stoicism (MOC)]], [[Amor Fati (MOC)]] Related:: In theoretical opposition of [[The Pygmalion Effect]] --- Negative emotions, such as frustration, anger, etc., exist and perpetually thrive between the gap of your expectations and reality when you enable/allow it. That if we have high expectations that don't align with reality, this make us feel like we've missed out, been cheated, etc. and generally gives rise to a negative outlook on the given topic, experience, etc. However, the *reality* is (heh), we don't control what we don't control ([[Stoicism (MOC)]]) and ==we need to make the most of every situation in a way that is based on reality, not our constructed expectations. This liberating mindset is born from actualized autonomy - your [[Perception]] of reality is **one of the very few things you do have complete dominion over!**== So why don't you wield it so? Why do you act defenseless and carried by the whim of your emotion? Recognizing that gap, [[Managing your expectations]], and rebasing or leveling those is a sure-fire way to find peace and [[Being fully present|a presentness]] in each moment. Otherwise, you'll throw it away... Your unchecked [[Perception]] discards your potential of [[Being joyfully present]]. There is an interesting opposing correlation here to the [[The Pygmalion Effect]] and the question of "why" is interesting 🤔. Need to think on this one more... #note/develop🏗️ --- In general, see the highlighted sections in [[2023-06-13]] for application.
