# Infinite regress

Infinite regress is a sequence of reasoning, explanations, or causes which leads to an endless, recursive, loop. Often times, this this signals a lack of credibility in theory, because of it’s recursive or contradictory nature.
It can be measured in “viciousness”, yet can be considered “benign” as well. Whether regressions always need to be solved for is a debate in and of itself.
[[Foundationalism]] is a common response used to dismiss infinite regress.
[[It’s turtles all the way down]], is a direct expression of infinite regress.
An example of infinite regress:
- If [[God]] created the universe, then who created God?
- Another God? Then who created that God?
- Another God? Then who created that God?
- …And so on and so on, infinitely
