This is a tendency for individuals to fixate on perfect outcomes or solutions in a way that leaves them failing to realize and create impact along that journey by withholding release until the very end. In many cases, they're often left blind or unaware to the incremental steps or milestones.
For example: if the goal is to get to A to D, gold plating this journey would be to only conceive and plan for what is necessary to get to A to D without regard to B and C, which may act as milestones that deliver value along the path to D.
It is in opposition with an incremental way of thinking, such as [[The agile methodology]], where progress and impact are made incrementally along a path towards a goal.
